Anyone interested in volunteering at Community School – whether in the classroom, after school, on field trips, etc – needs to have a background investigation completed each year.
There is a new process for getting a BCI this year!! Please note the date restrictions!!
NEW PROCEDURE BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 2025: BCI APPLICATIONS WILL ONLY BE ACCEPTED THROUGH BUILDING SECRETARIES AND PROCESSED AT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT FROM:
- SEPTEMBER 2ND- SEPTEMBER 30TH 2025 during school hours (please avoid dropoff and dismissal times)
- FEBRUARY 2ND- FEBRUARY 27TH, 2026
- ON SEPTEMBER 14th at the ICE CREAM SOCIAL (SUNDAY 3pm to 4pm) WE WILL ALSO BE ACCEPTING BCI FORMS
BE SURE TO PLAN AHEAD AND GET YOUR BCI COMPLETED IF YOU WANT TO BE CONSIDERED AS A FIELD TRIP CHAPERONE OR FIELD DAY VOLUNTEER, AS WELL AS ANY OTHER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES.
Dates to get BCI applications in are as follows:
- BCI applications should be brought to the main office (Mrs. Skawinski ), with:
- an ID. Please note: an ID must be presented in person. Copies are not acceptable.
- $5 cash, or a check made payable to the Cumberland Police Department.
- The CPD will send approvals to Human Resources and names will be added to the volunteer list.
- Typical turnaround time is 10 days, and applications will be sent every FRIDAY only.
- To check BCI status, volunteers/teachers can call or email Christine.Skawinski@cumberlandschools.org.
BCIs are valid for 1 school year only. If you had one last year, you must still complete a new one.
AGAIN: How to get your background check:
- Download the form below
- Fill out and sign
- Make sure you have a valid ID to show.
- Bring $5 cash or a check for $5 made out to Cumberland Police Department
- Bring it to Mrs. Skawinski in the main office during school hours.
- Allow 10 days for approval! You can then check with Mrs. Skawinski if you have not received an update.
THE BCI APPLICATION NEEDS TO BE SUBMITTED 2-SIDED. COPIES WILL BE AVAILABLE AT SCHOOL IF NEEDED.
