Traffic Patterns and Safety Issues During Drop-Off and Pick-Up Times

The policy regarding the drop-off and pick-up of students at Community School was developed in cooperation with the Cumberland Police Department. These changes were implemented after the community and faculty raised concerns, and after observations and planning sessions were held.

Students may begin arriving at 8:45 AM. Students should NOT be on the School Grounds prior to 8:45 AM unless they are participating in the YMCA Program or a school-sponsored and supervised activity.

Parents dropping students off in the morning (between 8:45 and 9:00) will be directed to Sun Valley Drive. Cars will enter the parking lot and make a loop on the blacktop area. Children will be dropped off at the blue doors beside the gym. Cars will then be directed to complete the loop and exit beside the building to the left.

Any students being dropped off or picked up after 9:00 (including Kindergarten students) will need to enter the front of the building. Visitor Parking areas may be utitilized at that time.

Faculty Parking areas consists of rear parking lot as well as non-posted areas in front of the school.

Please note reserved spaces in front of the building for Handicap Parking, Police, and Administration Personnel.

Visitor Parking is available in front of the school in indicated areas. Parking is limited to 30 minutes.

No Parking will be permitted in Fire Lanes – Arnold Mills Road, the circular drive at the main entrance and the East side of the school.

Circular drive at the main entrance will be restricted to permit school buses only.

Children Dismissed as Walkers

Please inform the school in writing if your child is not riding the bus and is being picked up. If your child is a walker everyday, you only need to send one note. We appeciate your cooperation in helping to maintain an organized, smooth, and safe dismissal.

Thank you very much for your cooperation. Safety of our students is always our top priority!
