BUILDING SOCIAL & EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE IN CHILDREN

As I read the post from the Rhode Island Department of Education’s Teacher of the year (http://www.ride.ri.gov/InsideRIDE/AdditionalInformation/Blogs/tabid/746/PostID/76/Finding-Common-Ground-in-a-Divided-Society.aspx,)I found myself plagued with the reality that, as parents, it is often a struggle raising children in such a complex and constantly changing world. I found this article that I felt might be of interest to you:

HAPPY BASKET PROGRAM! 🙂

Dear Community School Families,

We will be collecting for the Happy Basket program again this year for local families in Cumberland. This is a great teamwork project for our students to participate in and make sure that all families have a healthy holiday season. Last year at this time, we were able to donate over 75 boxes and 15 bags of food to local families. We are hoping to do the same or even better this year.

Starting on November 6th until November 30th, we are asking each grade to send in a specific item for the collection. This will insure that all baskets will have a complete meal for the holidays. Our teachers donate gift cards to Stop and Shop to allow families to purchase turkeys. Please see the below list for items to be sent in. All items need to must be non-perishable.

  • Kindergarten: Bread Mixes (all varieties)
  • First Grade: Cranberry Sauce (canned)
  • Second Grade: Boxed Rice or Instant Potatoes
  • Third Grade: Canned Vegetables (all varieties)
  • Fourth Grade: Boxed Puddings or Canned Fruit Fillings
  • Fifth Grade: Boxed Pie Crusts or Cookies

A little incentive to donate: If you bring in one item, you will be able to enjoy our 1st reward of PJ Day on November 17th, 2017. If you bring in two items, you will be able to participate in Disney Day on Thursday, November 30th, 2017 as a 2nd reward. If you have any questions, please contact andrea.friedland@cumberlandschools.org.
Thank you for your time,
