SAFETY REMINDER AT PICK UP

PICK UP AND DROP OFF POLICY

The policy regarding the drop-off and pick-up of students at Community School was developed in cooperation with the Cumberland Police Department.

Parents dropping students off in the morning (between 8:45 and 9:00) must proceed to Sun Valley Drive. Cars enter the parking lot and make a loop on the blacktop area. Children can be dropped off along the side of the building and walk inside the gated area. Cars then complete the loop and exit besides the building to the left. Please do not park on the blacktop.

During regular arrival and dismissal times, no students should be dropped off or picked up using the front entrance to the building.

Any students being dropped off or picked up after 9:00 will need to enter the front of the building. After 9:00, students must be escorted to the office by a parent. Visitor parking areas may be utilized at that time. Parents are expected to escort children to the office to attain a late slip.

Parents picking students up in the afternoon will again enter through the rear parking lot between 3:05 and 3:25 pm. No parking will be permitted in the recess yard. Parents may enter the gymnasium area after 3:25 (Wednesday 2:20). Parking spots are limited so please be mindful to park between spaces as indicated. If spaces are full, please leave the parking lot and park on Sun Valley Drive.

PLEASE do not park on the grass or in the travel lane. We must all work together to keep a safe school!

Faculty parking areas will consist of rear parking lot as well as non-posted areas in front of the school.

Handicapped parking is indicated at the front of the building.

Staff and police parking are designated. Please do not park in these designated spots.

Short term visitor parking is available in front of the school in indicated areas.

NO PARKING is permitted in FIRE LANES, i.e., Arnold Mills Road, the circular drive at the main entrance and the east side of the school.

Circular drive at the main entrance is restricted to permit school busses only.

Please remember that there is only a small window of time before instruction begins and students must be in their classrooms prior to the 9:00 bell.

Thank you very much for your cooperation. Safety of our students is always our top priority.

NOTES FROM OUR SCHOOL NURSE TEACHER, MRS. JACINTO

Notes from the Nurse –Fall
Vision Screenings
Vision screenings for grades K-5 will begin this month. Most kindergarten students have had their vision screened at the Pediatrician’s office and therefore will only require color vision screening with the school nurse. If the Kindergarten student has not had distance vision screened, then it will be done by the school nurse.
For Kindergarten students who did not pass the vision screening done by the Pediatrician, the child must have a comprehensive eye exam done by an ophthalmologist or an optometrist (eye doctor). Documentation of the results needs to be sent in to the school nurse.
If your child (K-5) does not pass the vision screening done by the school nurse after 2 attempts, you will receive a notice.
Dental Screenings
If you child goes to the dentist please have the yellow dental card filled out by the dentist. Or you can send a parent note stating that your child visits their own dentist.

The school dentist will be here mid year to check all students who have not returned the yellow dental card or a parent note.
Healthy Reminders:
As cold and flu season approaches please keep your children at home if they have a temperature above 100.4 degrees and/or if they are vomiting and/or has diarrhea. Children should be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.
Head lice: Just a reminder to talk to your children about not sharing hats, hair accessories, combs, or brushes. It may be helpful to keep long hair tied back. If you suspect your child has head lice, please contact me. You may also refer to the Cumberland School Department policy on head lice (located on the school web page under school committee tab).
I only need physicals for kindergarten students.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.
Sincerely,

Danielle Jacinto, RN
