Week A

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Susan Cote who will serve as the Interim Principal for the remainder of the school year.  She will start on Monday in order to become acquainted with the routines and procedures of Community School and the Cumberland School Department.  Dr. Cote is a retired Massachusetts superintendent with years of experience and a wealth of knowledge.  I am confident that Community School will welcome Dr. Cote and work with her to maintain Community School’s high standards of teaching and learning.

Please note the following:

Layla’s Legacy:  We will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Cumberland Food Pantry through the month of April.  Layla and her father volunteered at the pantry and this is a fitting way to honor Layla’s memory.

Town Meeting:  Tuesday, April 11th 7:30pm at McCourt Middle School.  Many of you were at the meeting last week for the discussion of the levy.  The town council will be taking a vote in the levy which could significantly impact the budget of the school department.

Reading Week  April 10th-13th.  We will be celebrating reading week this week! Kids, listen up, after morning announcements each day, you will hear a poem read by one of your school mates! Each day, classes will Drop Everything and Read!  On Tuesday, kids are encouraged to wear a (school appropriate) shirt with words on it!  Thursday will be the vocabulary parade!  Please choose a “juicy” word and create a visual representation of your word to share with the school in a parade.  See the letter about the vocabulary parade for more information! Reading Week Information

Spring Picture Day:  Monday, April 6th.  Lifetouch will return to photograph all students.  Thanks to Kara Dessert and Josephine Chau for supervising this photo session.

The concert for the remaining classes of Mrs. Dwyer, Mrs. Pascoe, Mrs. Friedland, Mrs. Kirkpatrick and Mrs. Knasas will take place on Friday, May 12th.

Friday Fitness Club:  Friday, April 28th.  This will be the last session for the school year.  Students in grades K-2 are invited to attend.  The session runs from 8:10 am to 8:40 am.  Students may be dropped off by the gym door.  There is no teacher supervision before 8:10 am
