Week A

It is with mixed emotions that I announce that I have resigned my position as principal for Community School.  A few week ago, I was appointed principal of Hugh Cole Elementary in Warren.  My resignation is effective on April 17th.  Hugh Cole is located less than 10 minutes from my home.  This move will allow me to spend more time with my family and create a greater balance between my personal life and my professional life.

My time at Community has been one of the best professional experiences in my life.  I’ve had the opportunity to work with excellent teachers, students, administrators and parents.  Together we have created a learning environment that is innovative, progressive and challenging.  Students have reached great heights in their learning and achievement.  I know that this work will continue with the team that I leave behind.  Thank you for your ongoing support and the chance to serve you and your children.

Please note the following:

Future Chef Competition:  On Saturday, Milo Beauregard and Brayden Dwyer participated in the district wide competition at Cumberland High School.  Congratulations to Milo whose recipe won first place.  Look at the happy faces of these second graders:  IMG_5143.JPG IMG_5163.JPG

Student Highlight:  Each year we conduct a fundraising campaign for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  Each year one young man goes over and above to raise funds for other children who suffer from cancer.  His name is Brady Collins.  This year was no different.  Brady raised over $1,000.00 by collecting all year long, donating his own money, and going door to door.  He is model of commitment and service to others for all students.  Thank you Brady for your hard work!

Aspen Family Portal:  Second trimester report cards will be published on Monday, March 27th.

CLEAN:  Dance Party class will not be meeting this week.  All other CLEAN classes will be meeting this week.

Outdoor Learning Space:  Plans are underway to create the outdoor learning space.  This project is under the direction of Mrs. Boisvert and her team.  They are looking for parents with landscaping, gardening or construction to join the team in order to bring this project to completion.  Please contact Mrs.  Boisvert via email Diane.Boisvert@cumberlandschools.org.

SIT Meeting:  Wednesday, March 29th 8 am in the conference room.

Jump Rope for Heart:  On Wednesday March 29th students will be able to wear their PJ’s or sports attire to school.  Community School earned this by reaching our first school goal of $5,000 for Jump Rope for Heart.

Survey Works:  Ends Friday, March 31st.  Your feedback about Community School is important to future planning. To take the survey, visit: surveys.panoramaed.com/ride and enter 08109family.

Fifth Grade Bean Bag Tournament:  Friday, March 31st, 4pm-5pm.  We will hold our Fourth Annual Bean Bag Tag Tournament where fifth graders will be playing bean bag tag on teams of 8.  This will take place at Community Elementary School inside the gymnasium immediately after school. Only players will be allowed inside the gymnasium.  The two top winning teams will then get to compete against the other fifth graders in the district at the Cumberland High School Wellness Center on another day where spectators will be welcome.

Friday Fitness Club:  Friday, March 31st.  Students in grades K-2 are invited to attend.  The session runs from 8:10 am to 8:40 am.  Students may be dropped off by the gym door.  There is no teacher supervision before 8:10 am
