Welcome to Community School’s new principal,

Mrs. Cheryl Vaughn

Welcome to the new school year!  I am so excited to be here!  For many of you, I am a familiar face, but for those of you who I have not yet met, let me take a minute to introduce myself.
I am a veteran Principal, who began her administrative career in RI in 1998.  I joined the Cumberland community, specifically Community School in 2000.  I left Cumberland after 5 years and have been a Principal in East Greenwich Schools for the past 12 years. Much of my career in education has been Educational Leadership, Special Education and Early Childhood Education.
Over the years, I have had the great professional satisfaction of watching a school’s vision for students come to life through the creation and ongoing development of professional learning communities and individualized learning protocols.  I have watched teacher leaders stretch their thinking and the thinking of others as we made problem solving for personalized learning a standard operating procedure.
I have watched families and teachers create authentic partnerships to ensure student success.  I have considered it a blessing to have ongoing collaboration and support from thousands of parents over the years.  I have had the great privilege of serving beside many talented administrators who have consistently enhanced my repertoire of skills. Their impact on their students, their colleagues and families in the community is immeasurable. I am thrilled to be part of the Cumberland Administration Team, whose reputation for excellence is undeniable.
I consider it an honor and a privilege to be joining the faculty of Community once again. As I have begun my transition to Cumberland and Community School, I have been so impressed with the clarity of vision and focus that is so evident in the work that is rooted solidly in student learning outcomes.  I have met with teacher leaders who have shared their passion for their work and the work of their teams.  This passion and commitment makes Community Elementary School a source of pride for staff, students, families and the community of Cumberland.

I look forward to meeting you and supporting your children in their learning journey for many years to come.

Wishing you a safe and restful summer,

Cheryl Bernardo Vaughn, Principal

Letter from Mrs. Snell:
Dear friends, colleagues and families,

I hope you are all having a wonderful summer filled with relaxation and fun! I’m writing with some bittersweet news to share with you all. If you haven’t already heard through the grapevine:) I’ll be moving to the NCMS guidance department this coming school year. Jen Carroll the school counselor from NCMS, will be taking the Community position. Many of you remember Jen, Mrs. Dubois then, as she was the school counselor before me. I cannot believe 9 years has flown by so quickly …and that so many of you have been by my side through the ups the downs, my own triumphs and struggles and we have shared so much together professionally and personally. I’ll miss this school and that feeling of being proud to say where you work and especially who you work with.
This was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. I’m leaving knowing someone who I trust and respect is coming in …and that gives me so much comfort while making such a big decision. It wasn’t an easy one, but the timing for me and my family was perfect.
I wish you all a fabulous school year to come. Your administrator is a wonderful person and leader. I know it will be great; exciting and new.
And lastly, thank you. Thank you for listening, sharing, helping and being a fabulous work family. I’ll miss you all very much!

donate donate-2

Last year, many Community School families chose to donate to our direct contribution campaign. The CSA is again offering parents the option of supporting CSA programs through our direct contribution campaign. Through this fundraising option, 100 % of your contribution goes directly to supporting our programs and your donation is tax-deductible.

Your CSA donation pays for a number of activities that enrich your child’s school experience and help strengthen the partnership between parents and teachers here at Community. Last year, we spent over $75 per student on CSA programs and activities such as field trips, cultural enrichment programs, math nights, field/fun day, teacher stipends for classroom materials, and many, many other events.

If you would like to participate with a direct contribution, please return your completed form, along with a check made payable to “CSA” to your child’s teacher in an envelope marked “CSA-Direct Contribution Campaign.” Remember all donations are tax-deductible. Any amount that you can give will help us keep on doing all that we do!

Thank you in advance for your support.

Last year, contributions totaled approximately $7,000!
